1 Minute Gospel. Light that makes itself a gift

Reading

Luke 8:16-18

16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”

Comment

Knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom is not esoteric or Gnostic, that is, reserved only for a sect, but must be shared with others. Indeed, Christ came into the world to make the truth known, not to hide it.

The purpose for which light must become a gift is explained in the parallel passage of Matthew's Gospel: «let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven» (Mt 5:16 ).

The efficacy of the Word does not depend exclusively on its intrinsic value, but also on the way in which it is received. God gives greater intelligence to those who accept the revealed mystery, while he takes it away from those who do not accept it.

Projecting the light of the Gospel on the world means overcoming the distinction between "temporal" and "spiritual", allowing the love of Christ to be incarnated in society. In these terms, and not according to merely economic or technological growth, we can speak of the real development of humanity.

Prayer

Enlighten, Lord, humanity awaiting the dawn of your kingdom, that brings justice and truth. Amen.
